Technique first

You learn to perform the basic exercises properly, so you can build up safely.

Build up gradually

Your trainer increases the load step by step and adjusts the plan to how you feel.

Advice for beginners

How to start training the smart way

Just getting started? These are the principles a good personal trainer uses to guide you through the first months.

Basic movements first

You learn the movements everything builds on: squatting, hinging at the hips, pushing, pulling and carrying. Once you master them, you can safely train heavier later on.

Twice a week is enough

Two sessions a week with rest in between are a good start for most beginners. Your body gets used to it and it is easier to keep going.

Muscle soreness is normal, pain is not

Muscle soreness after your first sessions is normal and fades after a few days. If you feel sharp pain or pain in a joint, tell your trainer. They will adjust the exercise.

Tips for your first months

  • Feel free to ask if something is unclear, your trainer will explain
  • Write down your sessions, so you can see yourself getting stronger
  • Small steps: a little more each week is enough
  • Sleep, food and drink count just as much as the training itself

Why start in a PT-only gym?

  • No crowds and no one watching: everyone trains with a trainer
  • Always someone checking your technique
  • A plan, so you do not have to figure out what to do yourself
  • Open 24/7: you schedule your sessions when it suits you

Your first session: what to bring

  • Sportswear and trainers
  • A towel
  • A water bottle (you can also buy water at Upshape)

There are changing rooms and showers. A session usually lasts 60 minutes; with a few trainers 45 minutes.
